According to a report on Tatame former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, better known as “Little Nog”, will hook it up at UFC 113.
MMA Junkie was able to confirm the bout today by sources close to the fighters.
Nogueira made his UFC debut the same night Griffin extracted revenge on Tito Ortiz at UFC 106.
The smaller of the two Nogueira’s, Rogerio laid waste to slugger Luiz Cane in under two minutes.
Griffin came into UFC 106 on a two fight losing streak that saw him not only lose his title but the respect of many fans after his mad dash from the cage at UFC 101.
It didn’t take long for the fans to fall in love with Griffin again as he battled Ortiz back and forth for two rounds before dominating the former champion in the third round.
This is a matchup that has been discussed hypothetically since November 22, the day after UFC 106.
Nogueira has an obvious edge in BJJ and is also a highly regarded former amateur boxer who has beaten Dan Henderson, Kazushi Sakuraba and Alistair Overeem.
Griffin is a fighter’s fighter, he doesn’t possess brute strength, world class wrestling or precision striking but he does have heart and has shown he can hang with the best in the world. As long as they aren’t named Anderson Silva.
UFC 113 is scheduled for May 8 and will be held at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
The main event will be a rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua looks to prove that the judges were wrong when they awarded the decision to champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 104 back in October.
Also rumored for the card is a matchup between two of the past season’s The Ultimate Fighter reality show. Kimbo Slice who made his octagon debut a successful one against Houston Alexander will take on Matt Mitrione.
Former No. 1 middleweight contender Patrick Cote will fight for the first time since October of 2008 when he takes on Alan Belcher.
So once again as far as Griffin is concerned, there is no rest for the weary, the man takes on all comers. His last five opponents have a combined record of 102-23-1 and all five are former or current world champions.
