All I can say is HOLY BATMAN!!! Episode 6, about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago was undeniably and incredibly the quickest 2 fights for a TUF show! Team Koscheck had fight control for the first fight of the night (since his Nam Phan won the previous week), and he chose Marc Stevens (12-5) and from Team GSP’s team Cody McKenzie (10-0). McKenzie and Koscheck have been showcasing some verbal exchanges for weeks now, and they simply do not like each other. Koscheck wants to fight him, despite the weight class difference. McKenzie is a little cocky especially with his undefeated record and Koscheck acts like a high school bully as opposed to a professional MMA fighter!
McKenzie ended the fight quickly in round 1 under 20 seconds with a guillotine. I think that got under Koscheck’s skin, because this will entice both to continue the banter. With Team GSP’s team winning, they chose the next fight of the night – Team GSP’s Jonathon Brookins (11-2) vs. Sevak Magakian (8-3). Brookins, a humble fighter from Florida who is growing in his MMA career and learning every day and grasping this opportunity to train with some of the best fighters in a supreme facility. Magakian, a judo practitioner from Armenia is also absorbing the knowledge and training. This fight ended early as well with some back and fourth action but Brookins jumped guard with a body choke and transitioned it into a rear naked choke all in round 1.
Episode 7, last week Team GSP still in control, chose Dane “Red Horse” Sayers (7-1) and from Team Koscheck, Sako “The Armenian Psycho” Chivitchian (5-0) for the fight.
This fight did go 2 rounds and Sayers won by decision. It was close, but you can tell that “The Armenian Psycho” is a judo expert and plenty of gi-muscle memory in his fight game. Judo is a phenomenal weapon for MMA, but it is gi based, and has not really transitioned out like Jiu-Jitsu has with gi use.
We also were shown the coaches challenge, and this season Dana White and company have chosen the good ole American sport of baseball with a home-run derby. GSP has never picked up a bat (he is French-Canadian, and the sport is now catching on there and Canada has Major League baseball team, Toronto Blue Jays!) and Koscheck has not picked up a bat since he was in puberty. Koscheck ended up winning and won a sweet 10k and $1500 for each of his fighters. It was clean, good fun and GSP is class act with the loss.
Word of this episode…WILDCARD ! Everyone in the house is wondering, expecting, talking about it. Is it going to be Marc Stevens? Andy Main? Jeffrey Lentz? Some fighters do not think Lentz deserves it due to his tobacco chewing and alcohol consumption…too bad he is on Team Koscheck otherwise he should train with GSP’s Jean Charles Skarbowsky the Parisian Muay Thai champ who drinks and smokes right before his fights and wins!
And lets not forget Koscheck’s immature and ignorance while he teases Team GSP’s medic Brad Tate by calling him a male nurse over and over. I wonder if Koscheck realizes what a jerk he indeed sounds like each week…we will have to tune in this week Wednesday night on Spike TV to see who gets picked and what will come out of Koscheck’s mouth next. Should be entertaining!
