The Ultimate Fighter 17.03: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The new season of The Ultimate Fighter continues to deliver.

This week was heavily hyped as having one of the greatest knockouts in show history, and they did not lie. Uriah Hall defeated Adam Cella by KO with only five seconds remaining in the first round.

Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly from the third episode:

The Good

  • Chael Sonnen continues to shine as a coach. Uriah Hall talked to him about self-confidence and the advice given was on the money. Sonnen blends both physical and mental training extremely well.
  • Adam Cella may have been knocked out, but he went right after Uriah Hall. Hall is considered to be the top of the class this season and he showed no fear. Up until the end of the fight he was holding his own. Kudos to Cella.
  • The spinning back kick KO was so beautiful. That will end up on highlight reels for a long time, and should easily earn Hall the 25K bonus for knockout of the season.

The Bad

  • The in-house arguments are tired. Thankfully, the majority of the show has taken place at the UFC training facility. As the season progresses and more are eliminated I am sure there will be more in-house antics to make you all groan.
  • The knockout. While it is beautiful and finishes are always welcome, it was also scary. According to UFC President Dana White on Twitter, Cella was out for four whole minutes. Terrifying stuff.

The Ugly

  • While in the van Kevin Casey mentioned that he would like to fight Bubba McDaniel later on due to a cut over his eye — a legitimate concern in a tournament of this nature. Yet his teammates did not seem to take that well. As a team, they should support their teammate, especially when there is a concern for a cut that could send him out of the competition.
  • In spite of concern about the cut, Casey will still fight next week. However, it will not be against McDaniel. If you are going to talk smack with people, then you should fight them.
  • Hall vs. Cella was an alright fight, but that it would come along with the KO was obvious. Hall is clearly at the top of the food chain of this cast, and mismatches create finishes. Cella was not ready for someone like Hall. It was unavoidable, but still ugly.

Kevin Casey vs. Collin Hart is on deck for next week’s episode. We could get fantastic fight, and with how this season has played out thus far, I suggest tuning in.
