A few words with… Che Mills

By Roy Billington

I met with British fan favourite and 15-3 mixed martial artist Che Mills to talk all things UFC on FUEL 7, his fight with Duane Ludwig, and his opponent Matt Riddle.

After an up and down year in 2012, asked him what he was looking for going into 2013, and he responded:

CM: Erm, some success a lot of hard work. You know, just to keep my head down and keep training and keep winning.

On how many fights he’s looking to get, he answered:

CM: Three, hopefully more if I can stay healthy.

When asked about his disappointment at not getting to showcase his skills in his UFC on Fuel TV 5 fight against Duane Ludwig, he replied:

CM: Yeah a little bit, especially being a fighter; that’s really not the way you want to get a win — you want that decisive finish or even just a decision, just not an injury.

On what excites him about fighting Matt Riddle, he said:

CM: I think just the fact that he’s nuts, he’s willing to stand and trade. Yeah, I’m just looking for a really exciting fight.

I then asked about whether he felt any additional pressure from the fans, given what Matt has said about the British fans. His response was:

CM: Nah, I don’t think so. I think it was all hype; I never took any notice.

His keys to victory:

CM: I see me taking it in the standup and my takedown defence will be important.
