The episode of The Ultimate Fighter had more in-house drama than what the fight produced, but we were treated to a nice knockout. Josh Samman took on
Tor Troeng in the episode’s bout.
We are back for another addition of the good, the bad, and
the ugly.
The Good:
- Some good light-hearted humor from the cast made
the episode when they made Troeng a hammer. A bit corny, but overall a nice
little moment to lighten the mood. - The show’s production this season is off the
charts. The talking head interviews give the fighters a chance to talk about
how they got into fighting, and allow the audience to connect with them. A
spectacular production element is how the lights form an Octagon in their eyes.
The fighter interviews are a high point of the show. - More solid humor came in the form of a
spontaneous coach’s challenge. Chael Sonnen challenged Jon Jones to a
three-frame bowling match. Loser had to wear the other’s jersey for one
training session. Sonnen came out on top. - For as much as Josh Samman has come off poorly
on this show, he came away with a KO in the first. That will surely make some
forget his in-house attitude. Tor dropped his hands, and Samman leveled him
with a straight right hand. Quality stuff from the youngster out of
Tallahassee.
The Bad:
- Prior to commercial break Tor dropped a quality
quote, “Talking is silver, and silence is gold.” When they returned it was Samman
talking, talking, talking. Samman would
win the fight, but Samman continues to rub the cast and the audience the wrong
way. - Things got a little heated between Team Sonnen
teammates Uriah Hall and Luke Barnatt in training, and then Hall mentioned he
wouldn’t mind fighting him. While at some point teammates will likely have to
fight, now is not the time to have division in the teams. This was not a good
moment for Team Sonnen.
The Ugly:
- Uriah Hall had a bad episode. He called out his
own teammate, and got in to it with Team Jones fighters over next to nothing.
He may be starting to break mentally under the tough conditions of the house.
From what was shown in the episode there was nothing that should have sent him
over the edge, but he felt pushed and retaliated. It was not a good look for
Hall.
Team Jones got control again and picked
Clint Hester to take on Jimmy Quinlan. Hester was Jones’ top pick. Come back
next week for more of the good, the bad, and the ugly of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen.
