I picked Anderson Silva to defeat Thales Leites by 2nd round tko
Silva got a lot of criticism for not being aggressive in the Cote fight, but I think that’s due to people having the wrong impression of Silva’s fighting style. Much like Machida, he is a counter fighter. When his opponent isn’t aggressive, it makes for a boring fight. And as you can see in this fight, Leites refused to be aggressive by any measure. I don’t give Silva any criticism for his performance.
What I love about Silva, and fighter’s like him, is the way he can fight with his hands down and still demonstrate such precise head movement to avoid both outside and straight punches. Also I love the sidekick to the knee. I was always taught to use that and always wondered why it wasn’t used more in MMA. Cung Le also uses it alot.
When Rogan said “let’s take a look at the action” in between rounds, I was thinking that they must have been pretty hard pressed to find that, or on the other hand, they didn’t have a hard choice figuring out what “action” to replay.
It was also interesting that Silva got warned for footstomps, which I think were the only thing that remained banned after to Montreal Atheletic Commission fiasco that almost put the kybosh on this event.
