I never understand why people rate an exciting KO like this so low… to me, this was a great result and hugely entertaining.
It has people talking and that is way better than 3 rounds of Manny Gamburyan boring the hell out of me.
Aldo will be tested when he gets locked inside the cage with MTB.
I agree that quick knock-outs like this are entertaining. Much more so than a long drawn out boring fight where the fighters are either overly tentative or laying on each other. However, when it comes to rating the quality I the fight, which is an extremely subjective thing, personally I don't think quick fights are the type of fight that I would consider great.
If someone were to ask me to recommend a great fight, as interesting and conducive to water cooler talk as it might be, I would not choose a quick KO. That doesn't take anything away from the fighters. In my opinion their job is not to put on quality fights, but to quickly dispatch of their opponents, as Aldo did quite well.
Personally I sum up the aspects of a fight into relevance, action, and skill. That is at a very high level, but I find it works for me. Aldo threw that knee and finished the fight. Yes it was exciting. But what if Swanson had gotten back up and stayed in the fight? What if the fight had been a three round war that culminated in that fight ending knee? Would those scenarios had made for a better fight? You don't have to think so, but I do.
So that's why I rate 8 seconds fights pretty low.
