UFC TUF 10 Contestant Roy “Big Country” Nelson: Episode 4 Q & A

By Aaron Richman (aaron@mmafightcouncil.com)

Roy, whether they love you, hate you, or something in between, legions of MMA fans are really getting to know you!

Here are some questions for you about TUF 10 Episode 4, and as always, feel free to add anything else that you want to!

MMAFC: OK, we HAVE to start this week’s Q & A with the statement you made finishing up last weeks! You said that you have a heart attack, and Kimbo comes back to replace you! What was that all about?? Was that a food/diet joke (Whoppers, french fries, etc.), or were you just messing with us?

RN: No, it was simple one I have heart attack, while on my death bed, Dana at my bedside I tell him to tag Kimbo in for me so he could fight, and make all the little Kimbo fans happy.

MMAFC: Is Rampage REALLY as bad a coach as he has appeared to be so far? Could you talk a little about that?

RN: TV is TV, Rampage is what you get. With him you get both sides from the camera, he just plain does not have the skills.

MMAFC: Can you give us a little context here? While it’s the fourth week that we’re seeing, how long had you actually been in the house at this point? How was the house experience for you up until now? Talking about the house, as Kimbo’s roommate, what can you tell us about the man that ONLY a roommate could? Also, how do you think Kimbo would answer that question about you?

RN: In the house I would say about 2 weeks. My experience in the house so far has been positive I won my first fight. Being Kimbo’s roommate was great because he was quiet except when he snored. We always had good talks about the sport and its expectations.

MMAFC: What was the deal with Marcus, he seemed like he was moments from death, at one point! Is he OK, now? We did see him come back and train hard afterward. We even hear Rampage impressed with how much raw strength he has. What were your thoughts about Marcus, at this point, regarding his character, strength, athleticism, and chances of success?

RN: Marcus Jones was blessed with gifts that make him an athlete. He is a man that can move like a light weight but strong enough to rip your head off.

MMAFC: OK, so after much conversation and lot’s of thought, Team Rampage comes up with match ups. Give us some background on how/why “The Snitch” situation occurred with Matt, and how you and your team felt about it.

RN: The snitch thing with Matt was strategy for Matt. He doesn’t want to fight Marcus. The team was mad because he told Scott the match up and possible fight strategy so the team was mad.

MMAFC: How did you and your team feel about the match up with Schaub and Rogers? Were you guys worried about Schaub being controlled on the ground, prior to him reversing and locking in the choke? Did you have any thoughts/feelings about Rogers being left in the cage defeated, alone, and seemingly unsupported?

RN: Team liked it, I guess since Brendan wanted Demico. We weren’t really worried for Brendan because he was Rashad’s boy. As a coach I could see how Rampage could be mad if he thought Demico gave up, but if Demico gave 100% you would pick him up and get back to training and make him a better fighter.

Thanks again for your time Roy!
