UFC Rewards Paul Daley With a New Six Fight Deal: Koscheck Next

By Bryan Levick

With two straight knockout wins to start his UFC career Paul Daley has earned more than the respect of his fellow fighters, he has earned himself a new six fight contract with the company.

In a story published by The Telegraph the British born Daley received the new deal around the same time he was offered a bout with Josh Koscheck at UFC 113.

Semtex has certainly lived up to his name as he devastated Martin Kampmann at UFC 104 and sent jiu-jitsu wizard Dustin Hazelett to the hospital at UFC 108.

While much of the focus has been directed towards fellow British welterweight Dan Hardy, who will try to do what only two men have done, defeat Georges St. Pierre at UFC 111, it has been Daley who has been much more destructive.

Koscheck will offer Daley his toughest test in the UFC due to his superior wrestling, a quality that many have said Daley certainly lacks in.

No one can ever question the striking ability or the power that Daley has but when it comes to grappling, Daley leaves a lot to be desired.

The last two times he has faced a fighter with a strong ground game, Daley has come up short.

Back in February, Daley faced former UFC veteran Nick Thompson at a Maximum Fighting Championship in Canada. Thompson took home a unanimous decision victory.

In October of 2008 he took on current Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields for the EliteXC welterweight championship on CBS. Daley hung tough until late in the second round when Shields took him down and submitted him with an armbar.

The Daley-Koscheck bout should offer just as much excitement outside the cage as it does inside. Both men can hold their own when it comes to trash talking.

Many of you may recall that Daley was upset that his original opponent at UFC 108, Carlos Condit was forced to pull out due to a hand injury.

Daley unleashed a verbal assault against Condit calling him a p***y and questioning the severity of his injury.

The UFC usually holds true to the theory that as long as a fighter brings it and puts on an exciting fight they will remain gainfully employed.

Daley may fit perfectly into that category because when it comes down to it, he will have a difficult time facing any fighter with a solid wrestling background.

So with a new deal signed and the biggest fight ahead of him, Daley has an opportunity to make a huge impact inside the octagon.

Win or lose, as long as he does what he does best, Daley should be exciting UFC fans for the foreseeable future.
