Time to back-track…3 weeks ago were the quarter finals with 2 fights and 2 fighters ready to release their fists of fury! Two of Team GSP’s fighters, Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres and Michael Johnson are anxious for this night. Time to train and leave the drama behind at least for this episode!
GSP invited famed boxing coach Freddie Roach in for words of wisdom, advice and motivation to the team. GSP gave his team fantastic coaches and the best training possibilities this season leaving Koscheck’s team some feelings of envy and neglect.
First fight of the night of these quarter finals was Team GSP’s Kyle Watson vs. Team Koscheck’s Aaron Wilkinson. Watson, being a BJJ practitioner prefers a ground game went for a take-down early in since Wilkinson is a striker. After some exchanging, mostly on the ground, Watson secures a RNC for the victory. Next fight of the night, was the much anticipated Team GSP members, Caceres and Johnson. Most people thought Johnson would easily beat Caceres, especially since Caceres style was much more unorthodox. Caceres stood striking and kicking while Johnson went in for the take-downs. It was obvious Johnson was a stronger fighter, especially with GNP, but Caceres was ready, willing and able to stand his own ground. It was a close fight, but Johnson won by decision. This was quite an exciting fight!
December 1st, 2 hours, 2 semi final fights and too much drama. The drama was centered around Team Koscheck’s Nam Phan. After much talk and questioning fighters styles and talking about fighters behind their backs, Team Koscheck basically alienated him. No one could trust him and he just became a target for pranks especially after Wilkinson spilled the beans over Phan’s nightly hour long showers. The guys could not resist a prank of catching him in the shower at the precise time! Phan, the only Team Koscheck fighter yet to hold a victory was mildly upset since he had to fight and wanted some private time.
The first fight of the night showcased the quite humble and skilled Team GSP’s Jonathon Brookins vs. Team GSP’s quiet and BJJ practitioner Kyle Watson. Three rounds all belonged to Brookins, he dominated Watson standing and on the ground. Brookins spent most of the rounds in GNP mode and won by decision. Next up was Team GSP’s number 1 pick, Michael Johnson vs. Team Koscheck’s only victor, Nam Phan. This was 3 rounds of war. The first two rounds were back and fourth mostly striking – but were non-stop. By the third round, it became clear Johnson was a stronger, more dominant fighter and was going to win. Both fighters have incredible cardio and did not let anyone down displaying their hard-earned training come into fruition. Johnson won by decision, but it was close and very exciting fight. Nam Phan, Team Koscheck’s only fighter with a win just added a shade of disappointment for Koscheck.
Here we are with two Team GSP fighters in the finale, Saturday, December 4th. A good night of free fights on SPIKE TV with Brookins vs. Johnson. Also on the card is Stephan Bonner vs. Igor Pokrajac and Kendall Grove vs. Demian Maia. Who do you think will become the next ULTIMATE FIGHTER?
