According to FightMetric Nam Phan now Holds Record for Most Significant Strikes Landed in a UFC Fight. At UFC 136 Phan landed 174 significant strikes against Garcia, breaking the single fight record, previously held by Chris Lytle against Matt Serra at UFC 119. Phan and Garcia combined for 274 significant strikes landed, which is just four shy of the combined single-fight record held by Lytle and Serra.
Phan and Garcia both came out aggressive. Garcia was mostly swinging wild hay-makers. Pham picked him apart with accurate combinations. Pham easily worked Garcia in the first two rounds. In the 3rd round Garcia came out with new aggression and had Pham hurt for a while. Garcia punched himself out and Pham was able to take control again, but not necessarily enough to take the round.
