The face of the division for years to come will likely be decided at the end of the month, as the eagerly-anticipated rematch between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez at UFC 155 will feature the two heavyweights who have built a sizable gulf between themselves and the rest of the weight class. Waiting in the wings is Alistair Overeem, the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, whose suspension end just in time to free him up for the Heavyweight Grand Prix matchup that never came to pass with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156. Speaking of former HWGP participants, the next season of TUF Brazil serves as prelude for a rematch between Fabricio Werdum and “Minotauro” Nogueira, a matchup that UFC brass has to be hoping Werdum will win. Elsewhere in the division, Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve are striving to break through the glass ceiling that separates the good-but-not-great heavyweights from the truly elite, as matchups with Matt Mitrione and Mark Hunt loom. And somewhere in that mix, Shane Carwin struggles to get healthy, having not competed in over 18 months. Maybe a matchup with Travis Browne is a good way to come back.
