A few words with… Jimi Manuwa and Dustin Poirier

By Roy Billington

During the hustle of bustle of the UFC on Fuel 7 open workouts I managed to catch quick interviews with top prospects Jimi Manuwa and Dustin Poirier. The full interviews can be heard below, but here are a few quick quotes.

Jimi Manuwa

RB: Last time out you faced Kyle Kingsbury. Were you surprised at the amount of punishment he could take?

JM: Em..Yes and No. He took some good knees and kicks and that, but I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t finish him. I know in myself that I didn’t catch him with something really nice. He’s a really tough opponent.

RB: Diabate is known primarily as a striker, but lately in fights when he gets tagged on the feet he looks to take the fight to the ground. Do you believe he’ll be looking to take it to the ground against you?

JM: I think so. I’m not going to settle with him saying he’s going to strike with me because I know he doesn’t like being hit, so I know if I touch him he’s going to feel it, so I’m ready.

Dustin Poirier

RB: What sort of shape were you in when you took this fight at short notice?

DP: I was weighing 173 pounds — I was still at the gym everyday, just eating loosely; I was in excellent shape.

RB: What have you learned since you’ve been training at ATT?

DP: You know, I’ve trained to train smarter. Ricardo’s a great coach and the guys there are great. I feel like I’m getting better every day, learning something new every day.
