State of California hiring new AC Executive Officer

Looks like in spite of its financial woes, and amid a flurry of resignations, the State of California is seeking to fill the position of California Athletic Commission, Executive Officer (position #617 – 110 – 8875 – XXX) – a newly vacated position.

According to Dave Thornton, the commission’s interim executive officer, Howard Rose, a California State Athletic Commission member, resigned effective later this month. His resignation is on the heels of last week’s resignation by commission member Timothy Noonan, another commission officer. To further this mystery, the leader of the state Senate, Darrell Steinberg, has also said he will not allow an appointment hearing for Commissioner Peter Lopez, an indication he is also expected to leave the commission this year.

According to mmanews.com, “The news comes from the Los Angeles Times, which reported last week that California’s ethics agency, the Fair Political Practices Commission, had opened an investigation regarding CSAC members using their positions to secure free admission for family and friends to events they were entrusted to regulate.”

In many states, while a commission member may attend an event for business purposes, their family and friends must pay to attend the event, just like everyone else.

Said mmanews.com “Following Steinberg’s announcement Thursday, the Times reported that Noonan, the chairman of the CSAC, resigned. In his resignation letter, Noonan cited a decision by Brian Stigar, the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs chief, to reject the commission’s choice for the vacant executive director position. The commission had recommended that veteran referee Pat Russell take the spot abandoned by Armando Garcia, who resigned under charges of sexual harassment in November of last year.”

Sounds like a mess.

The good news is, if you have the right qualifications, knowledge and abilities, you should think about applying. The salary is commensurate with experience, but they anticipate you’ll be paid between $6,922.00 – $7,485.00.
