What can you say. Haymaker from Evans hit its mark and then some. Great career for Liddell who has really taken this sport into the mainstream, but maybe its time to hang it up.
MMA is nothing if not evolving… the fighters that change with it keep succeeding. If Chuck is willing to fix his mistakes he’s still quite relevant.
Obviously, Chuck was looking for the knockout from the get-go. Neither he nor Rashad ever had their hands up in a traditional boxing defense. If you’re going to stay on your feet and trade punches, you better be prepared to box. I’m a fan of Chuck but I’d say this open arm stance finally became (literally) his downfall. As pointed out, he must fix this mistake or risk taking another shot to the head. Obtion “B” is retirement.
The first round was really boring, but that was great game planning by Rashad. What a brutal knockout.
It’s always something when a fighter gets destroyed with his own strength. The best examples I can think of is Gonzaga’s headkick KO of CropCop, or GSP dropping Koscheck on his ass.
I know people are calling for Chuck to retire, but I think its important to remember that someone like Chuck is more than the icon his fans have made him. He deserves to ride his career as long as he wants without criticism.
On the other hand, I’ve always thought he was a bit over rated. I doubt he will ever be able to regain his former stature in the division (especially with Machida around).
Meanwhile I curious to see what Rashad can do against Griffin. They both have great skills, versatility and game planning.
