One thing that amazes me is that Arlovski was on the undercard and not televised?!? Dana White promised him a shot at the belt if he beat Werdum. His fight with Werdum was boring and he fought conservatively but come on! Who’s going to challenge Nog – Arlovski, Werdum or Herring? Nobody wants to see Herring lose to Nog for the third time!
Jay,
From what I’ve heard, the only chance the Arlovski fight had of being televised was if he lost to O’Brien. That’s because this was Arlovski’s last fight on his contract (meaning he has not renewed), and that’s how the UFC roles.
But you’re forgetting about Frank Mir. He’s a former champion, who just came off an impressive win against a highly promoted Lesnar. It may not be that prestigious a win, but this might be the UFC’s best chance to promote another Mir championship fight.
Whether or not you think Mir deserves the fight, it’s at least as good a match as Werdum or Herring.
I get it on the contract expiring and not wanting to give positive exposure to a fighter leaving – but come on. UFC already lost Cro-Cop (for the time being)
Mir is not top 10 and needs to show that he won’t gas beyond 2 rounds. Let’s see if the Fedor – Couture can be put together. If not the UFC heavyweight division will go back to being mediocre.
A lot of heavyweight talent is currently outside of UFC – Barnett, Monson, Aleks, Kharitonov, and the big draw of Kimbo.

Overall, this was an okay card. Most of the matches were only moderate, but the main event was exceptional, adn the only prelim that was aired, was also exciting. The card is the worst UFC event so far this year, but the main event is the fight of the year so far.
