UFC 102‘s Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira enters the rankings at #6 with 4.33 stars.
Maybe fans really like Machida’s recent displays of dominance, or maybe they just enjoyed watching Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva get KO’d, since neither fight was competitive, but they hold the #3 and #5 spots with 4.59 and 4.38 stars, respectively.
Meanwhile Mike Brown vs. Urijah Faber 2 hold the 4th spot with 4.58 stars. While that was a great battle, you have to wonder how much the ratings are based on the popularity of the fighters and the emotional aspect of a rematch in which Faber fought multiple rounds with a broken arm.
Finally Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann and Miguel Torres vs. Takeya Mizugaki both lead the 2009 Fight Rankings with 4.64 stars, though the former holds the lead by less than 0.01 star.
Even though Miguel Torres vs. Takeya Mizugaki was slightly more relevant, being a title fight, the Condit/Kampmann had better displays of striking and grappling with quicker exchanges of dominance. It was tighter and had a slightly faster pace, which is saying a lot since bantamweight fights tend to dominate from an action perspective.
