Woman of MMA Prove to be the Ultimate in Real Fighting

By Katrina Belcher

Let’s go back a few years to 2002. A new documentary production called Hook N Shoot “Revolution” is filmed and then released in 2003.

Directed by Jeff Osborne, this film features:

  • Ruth Meija -vs- Erica Montoya
  • Olga Bakalopoulas -vs- Shannon Hooper
  • Jennifer Irons -vs- Jessica Ross
  • Tanya Vlahac -vs- Angela Wilson
  • Shelby Walker -vs- Tara La Rosa
  • Angela Restad -vs- Mayra Conde
  • Debi Purcell -vs- Chris Van Fleet

Yes – you’re reading correctly. These are all women. The gates were opened and Hook N Shoot made U.S. history. According to a report by FilmBaby.com: “When Hook N Shoot promoter Jeff Osborne suggested the idea of an all-woman’s MMA event, he was met with negative criticism. But on April 13, 2002, the critics were instantly silenced with the help of 14 female fighters.”

With the world watching, Hook N Shoot became the first promotion in the world to sanction woman’s MMA with the help of the Shooto promotion in Japan.

“Spectators who showed up expecting ‘Foxy Boxing’ and ‘catfighting’ were stunned. The woman of MMA proved to be the athletes of tomorrow and delivered the ultimate in real fighting.

Hook N Shoot broke new ground in the sport of MMA once again. The athletes came from around the world and turned the heads of fighting insiders, current fans and future spectators around the world.”

Fast forward to just 8 years later and Jeff Osborne is once again making history. Critics again said it could not be done, but from March 20th through March 28th, 2010, the 2nd Annual GFight Summit will be held in Evansville, Indiana. The GFight Summit features all women!
