As the Flyweight Division continues to be constructed, the ascension of Demetrious Johnson to the throne has yet to yield the kind of dividends for the UFC that they had anticipated. However, January represents a unique opportunity for the division, as a title fight at 125 pounds is due to become the focal point of a “Big Fox” fight card, where at UFC on Fox 6, John Dodson will get the opportunity to become only the third winner of The Ultimate Fighter (not counting the quirky “Comeback” season) to wear UFC gold. Beneath them, however, few names have distinguished themselves, as Ian McCall, formerly the #1 fighter in the world at the weight, and Joseph Benavidez, the man expected to succeed him, are largely directionless. Perhaps a fight between the two is in order. Darren Uyenoyama, difficult-to-pronounce last name aside, had a strong debut in the weight class, and might be a standout in short order. However, it is the UFC 155 showdown between John Moraga and Chris Cariaso that looms as the division’s pivotal matchup. One of these men must make an impact in victory in order to truly show the UFC brass that the Flyweights are worth showcasing, and the fans that the smallest men in the Octagon are not to be overlooked.

November Fights:
John Lineker vs. Yasuhiro Urushitani, UFC on Fuel 6

December Fights:
Tim Elliot vs. Jared Papazian, TUF 16 Finale
John Moraga vs. Chris Cariaso, UFC 155
