Fight Fixin’: Post-UFC 162 Losers Edition

By Adam Martin

Fight Fixin’ is a fantasy matchmaking article that comes out after every major event and features possible matchups for main card winners and/or losers from the previous event.

Anderson Silva

I’m not really sure what to say about Anderson Silva right now.

As far as I’m concerned, Silva could have beat Chris Weidman if he wanted to in the main event of UFC 162, but for some reason he chose to put on one of the most bizarre performance ever seen inside the Octagon, a performance which resulted in him being knocked out for the first time in his career.

UFC president Dana White confirmed at the UFC 162 post-fight presser that Silva is guaranteed a rematch for the title, but at this point it’s up to Silva if he wants it or not. In typical diva fashion, he says he’s going to take a few months to decide and will then make his mind up, which means Weidman is going to have to wait until Silva makes a decision to have his next fight booked.

If Silva wants the fight, the rematch will no doubt be one of the biggest in UFC history, and I have no idea how it will go. I just hope that if it does happen, Silva actually tries to fight Weidman instead of clowning around and looking like an idiot in the Octagon, because that’s exactly what he looked like on Saturday, July 7, 2013, a night that the MMA world will never forget.

Charles Oliveira

Charles Oliveira may have lost to Frankie Edgar, but he showed a ton of toughness and heart in going three rounds with the former UFC lightweight champion of the world. And even though he lost his fourth fight in his last seven outings, he’s still a ton of fun to watch, and he’s in no danger of being cut.

Another fighter with a bad record but who is fun to watch is Matt Grice, who is coming off a potential “Fight of the Year” decision loss to Dennis Bermudez at UFC 157. I think Oliveira vs. Grice has all the makings of yet another “Fight of the Year” candidate, and I hope this is the matchup the UFC has in mind, because I think it would be phenomenal.

Roger Gracie

Roger Gracie had a very poor performance at UFC 162, as he was pretty much controlled by Tim Kennedy for the majority of three rounds en route to a unanimous decision loss, yet another loss by a member of the Gracie family in the Octagon.

It wasn’t the type of UFC debut that Gracie wanted, and it likely drops his stock considerably. Another fighter whose stock dropped recently was Chris Camozzi, who was submitted by Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at UFC on FX 8.

I’d like to see Camozzi take on another grappler and prove that he can survive submissions on the ground – a must if he ever wants to move up the 185-pound ladder — and Gracie would be the perfect opponent to do it against.

Tim Boetsch

Tim Boetsch had a very disappointing performance at UFC 162, as he was completely outwrestled and dominated with ground and pound by Mark Munoz for the better part of three rounds, a loss which left him with two Ls in a row on his record.

Another middleweight with two straight losses is Alan Belcher, and I think a fight between Boetsch and him would be very exciting. I’m actually surprised these two haven’t fought yet, but now is the perfect time to finally make this match and prove who is still relevant and who will never amount to anything in the UFC middleweight division.

Dennis Siver

Dennis Siver was quite competitive with Cub Swanson for the better part of two and a half rounds, but in the third round Swanson really took over and ended up knocking Siver out with a series of brutal punches in the UFC 162 PPV main card opener.

Although Siver lost, he won a share of “Fight of the Night” for this bout, and I don’t think he drops too far in the standings with a loss. With a 2-1 record at featherweight, Siver is, in my opinion, one of the top 10 guys in the weight class, and should get a fun matchup his next time out.

I’d like to see Siver take on Max Holloway in his next fight. Both men are coming off a loss and both men are incredible strikers, so this has all the makings of yet another “Fight of the Night,” and who wouldn’t want to see that?
