The Ultimate Fighter 19.07: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

By Nathan McCarter

The latest offering of The Ultimate Fighter was a pretty ho-hum effort. The episode began with the fallout from the contentious decision from last week, and then got into the training for the upcoming fight. None of it was attention-grabbing, and the fight did not do anything to make the episode any better.

With that said, here is the good, the bad, and the ugly from the latest episode of TUF:

The Good:

  • BJ Penn talked about his fighter, Anton Berzin, not listening to coaching. He said, “listen to your coach every once in awhile,” and then admitted that maybe he should take the advice sometimes too. It is good advice, and it was also nice to see Penn with some self-awareness for his lack of listening as well.

The Bad:

  • Not surprisingly, there was tension in the house. The fighters were on edge after the decision. However, that tension wasn’t just confined to the house. Frankie Edgar was upset at practice over the decision, and tried to talk to his fighters about remaining in one position for too long.
  • The fight was a dud. Patrick Walsh won. That is all you need to know.
  • Berzin continued to try to do things his way. Penn said that the coaches have to take some of the blame as well. If you are not going to listen to the coaches that TUF supplies, why even compete?

The Ugly:

  • Matt Van Buren continued to be a loud-mouthed idiot. He even had trouble understanding what a majority draw was. Ian Stephens didn’t want any arguing. He continued his stance from last week’s episode that what’s done is done. Naturally, Mark Coleman loved it.

Next week’s fight is Eddie Gordon vs. Mike King.
