The return of Georges St. Pierre has restored order in the division in one respect, but has created chaos in another, as he has displaced interim champion Carlos Condit, yet in his next fight, could face either a long-reigning champion from another division in Anderson Silva, or a longtime nemesis in Nick Diaz, instead of the rightful #1 contender Johny Hendricks. If that’s not problematic enough, with a win on Saturday night over BJ Penn at UFC on Fox 5, GSP’s protege Rory MacDonald could see himself firmly ensconched in the title picture. Elsewhere in the division, Seth Baczynski could equal the largest current winning streak among contenders with a win over the very tough Mike Pierce, and possibly step up into higher-profile matchups in early 2013. Matt Brown is being showcased in a major way on Fox against Mike Swick, and if he can win his fourth straight fight, he will have put together one of the more unlikely runs in recent years. The divisional shakeup anticipated at the beginning of 2012 has come to fruition, and it remains to be seen whether the “old guard” can restore order in 2013.
